What Glove does
Glove runs field service for a small trade business: two to ten technicians doing heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical or recurring commercial service. It is free and open source under the MIT licence, and it runs on your own computer.
One job, start to finish
- An enquiry comes in. The desk records the customer, the site and what they need.
- A quote goes out. Lines come from your price book, GST is worked out to the cent, and a person approves the exact price before anyone records it as sent.
- The customer says yes. Glove records who accepted it and how (signed, an email reply, on the phone or in person).
- The job is booked. The accepted quote becomes a job with the checklist from its services. The dispatcher books a visit for a technician on the day board.
- The work is done on site. The technician records arrival, the checklist, notes, photos and materials on their phone, even where there is no signal, and the customer signs on the screen.
- The invoice is ready. The office prepares the invoice from the accepted lines plus the materials used, approves it, and exports it as a CSV for the accounting system.
Every step lands on the job's timeline with who did it and in which role. See Get started to run it.
Who does what
| Role | What they do in Glove |
|---|---|
| Owner | Everything at the desk: business settings, roles, move-in, approvals and invoices |
| Dispatcher | Customers, enquiries, quotes, jobs, booking and changing visits, deciding agent proposals |
| Office | Customers, enquiries, recording a quote as sent, and invoices |
| Technician | Their own visits on a phone: arrival, checklist, notes, photos, materials and sign-off |
| Agent | Prepares quote drafts, dispatch proposals and invoice drafts for a person to approve |
| Viewer | Reads the desk's records |
A technician sees only the visits assigned to them, with those jobs' customers, sites and evidence, and never a price. More in Team, roles and price book.
What makes it different
- A lost signal loses nothing. Each item waits on the phone and sends once when it reconnects. See On site, on the phone.
- Prices are approved by a person. Any price change is a new revision that needs its own approval.
- Nothing is claimed without evidence. A quote "recorded as sent" is a person's statement, not a delivery receipt; a technician has arrived only when their phone recorded it.
- Your history comes with you. Move in from ServiceM8 with a preview you can undo, and take the whole installation with you as one archive.
